Malapascua Island, located in Daanbantayan at the northern tip of Cebu, is a hidden gem for diving enthusiasts. Discovered as a diving destination only in the early 1990s, this small island lies just 8 kilometers across a shallow strait from mainland Cebu. The entire island is occupied by the barangay of Logon, which is made up of eight small communities.
While Malapascua does boast white sandy beaches, it gained fame primarily for its vibrant coral gardens and exceptional dive sites. In fact, the first resort established on the island was a dedicated dive center. Today, most of the island's resorts offer full-service diving facilities, making it a true paradise for underwater adventurers.

In fact, more than half of Malapascua’s visitors are divers and diving enthusiasts. The island’s main beach, Bounty Beach, stretches along the southern shoreline and is home to many of the island’s upscale resorts. Popular choices include Cocobana Beach Resort—the largest on the island—along with the luxurious Sunsplash Resort and the well-loved Hippocampus Resort, all offering top-notch accommodations and dining experiences. Most passenger boats traveling to and from Cebu dock at Bounty Beach, making it the central hub for arrivals and departures.

Reaching Malapascua Island begins with a scenic 4-hour bus ride from the Cebu North Bus Terminal, passing through the charming northern towns of Cebu on the way to Maya in Daanbantayan—the northernmost tip of the mainland. From the Maya wharf, visitors board motorized outrigger boats for a 30-minute ride across the narrow channel to Malapascua Island, with travel time depending on sea and weather conditions. Boats to the island run every 30 minutes, operating 24 hours a day. However, return trips to the mainland typically stop around 3:00 PM, so plan your departure accordingly.
